I have a Trek Farley 7. I love this bike. Crushes roots and rocks, and I’m just as fast on this bike as I was my Full Suspension Fuel EX 8.

The QR factor has been discussed on these bikes, I’m aware. However, I ride clipped in with Crankbrothers Candy Pedals. Has anyone had any results with switching to Flats to alleviate knee issues?

What kind of knee issues are you having? The only practical difference between flats and SPDs is the ability to move your feet. Your knees are going to effectively be in the same position regardless of pedals unless you’re moving your seat position too.

  2. Where is the knee pain? Have you had major knee injuries? Do you get this pain on any other bikes?

  3. Could be a load of possibilities. Can be the type of clipless shoes you’re using, your pedal position on your shoe, your seat height, posture etc. Either get a bike fit or make adjustments yourself.

  4. I’m riding flats and I ride all year round (it’s my daily), so far I noticed that seat position and height have the single biggest impact for avoiding knee pain, at least for me.

Getting a saddle matched to my bone structure and professional advice on bike fitting was a game changer.
