I love that image. I have it saved on my phone so I can bring it up occasionally.

Range. Range and time travel, to answer the question.
I do carry a folder in my car thou. Bikes are great when you are at the destination, not when its 3 hour drive on the autobahn to get there.

  3. Bikes are perfect!

I mean, almost perfect, the only thing bikes are missing is a roof so you don’t get soaking wet when it rains…and a shade to protect you from the sun so you don’t burn during summer…and AC to cool you down a bit…and some motor device to assist you when pedaling so you don’t get too tired…and a little bit of space to put your things in, like a trunk…and maybe another seat so you can bring a passenger…

Getting a solid bike was about the most liberating feeling I ever had. It was largely because of most of what is mentioned in your post.

“You could literally just buy another no problem” is terribly presumptuous about any given person’s financial situation.

  6. I want to explicitely state that this is for non e-bikes only and that e-bikes are worse and a step back for most of those reasons:

    – regulated

    – insurance useful

    – fuel with electricity

    – less fuel efficient than a normal bike

    – goes to exactly 20 mph

    – can’t just leave anywhere because of theft thread

    – too expensive to just replace if stolen

    – does not improve you while driving as much

    – far higher environmental impact

    – collisions are much more likely to injure or kill

the inexpensive is mhhh a bit exagerating i’ve never seen a 1€ bike but ok

I called around to the two local gyms, and I spent less for my bike than a yearly membership. Now, I know living in Indiana, I probably won’t be able to ride all year. But, I also know I hate the gym, I hate treadmills, elipticals, stairmasters, and I’d never go. Money well spent.

Anything that is a so called symbol of freedom tends to be yikky if you ask me

Well you cannot go get far with a bike and hills are tough. But yeah, it’s a great means of transport for shorter distances as long as weather is decent.

Getting a bicycle made me look forward to going to work again. Its just so much fun. Low maintenance, no need for fuel and physical improvement come later for me.
