A first for me, a Tubus Duo rack randomly snapped, got caught in the spokes and dragged the pannier and fender stays up. Also bought me to an immediate stop, but wasn't going fast, luckily. If out happened the day before when I was doing 40kmh down a mountain pass it might have been catastrophic.
I still can't figure out the mechanism. Doesn't look like an existing fatigue crack. Did hit a typical Japanese footpath road crossing just before it happened but have hit hundreds of similar ones. Maybe the bottom hook had come off so the pannier bounced up and then slammed the hook into the rack.
Quandary now is another Duo or something else.
Given where it broke, I can't see any functional difference between the Tara and the Duo, they both have an unsupported bottom leg.

It seems to have bent up, if I look at the crack.
That sucks, but let me tell you I love that you’re touring on Super Motos.
Tubus Ergo model is a lot stronger in that bottom half of the rack. Yours looks like the bottom of the pannier has been pushing the unsupported lower part of the rack until it fatigued
