Hi everyone, I saw a post from a few hours ago about a lock surviving an angle grinder attack and thought I’d share my lock’s blowtorch attack survival.
This happened a few months ago. The lock still works fine, so I haven’t stopped using it. I lock my bike with two locks, and the other one was untouched.
Do you guys think I should replace it? I feel like the lock is more of a deterrent now than before it was damaged. But if you guys think it’s best to replace, then I will.

i dont understand the “if they see someone else failed it’ll be a deterrent ” thing . can someone explain it please? it just makes it seem like an even easier target in my eyes since its weaker now. “someone else did 40% of the work so might as well finish it off”
The metal itself is damaged in ways that you can’t really know.
It might work fine.
It might rust locked in the worst possible place at the worst possible time.
I would replace.
The bike is a Schwinn? I’d keep using the lock out of scientific curiosity. And I’m not a bike snob. That Schwinn could be and likely is a great bike. But I don’t think it’s gonna be exposed to a lot of thievery pressure.
As long as your second lock is as or more robust than this one, I think it’s fine to keep using. I would not use this one as a primary lock. Basically, I would use an good undamaged lock to lock my frame to the rack, and this lock to lock my frame to a wheel.
