Ericeira Quickly Became Our Favourite Stop, But… | Family Vanlife Portugal

This week our full-time family vanlife journey takes us to Ericeira, Portugal’s famous surf and skate town.

What was meant to be just another stop quickly became one of our favourites. The kids found a skatepark they absolutely loved, spent hours improving their skills, and even took a few lessons to build their confidence on the board.

Away from the skatepark, we explored Ericeira’s rugged coastline, enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of this charming Portuguese town, and reflected on something we’ve learned during the eight months of living together in a motorhome: sometimes the best way to enjoy family life is to occasionally take a little time for yourself.

But while the kids were making the most of every day, Kristin and I were keeping a secret.

A surprise we’d been planning for a few months…and one that would soon take us away from vanlife for the first time since starting this adventure.

We’re a Maltese-German vegan family of four travelling Europe full-time in our motorhome, sharing the highs, lows and everyday realities of family vanlife.

Diese Woche führt uns unsere Vollzeit-Familien-Vanlife-Reise nach Ericeira, Portugals berühmte Surf- und Skatestadt.

Was eigentlich nur ein weiterer Stopp sein sollte, wurde schnell zu einem unserer Lieblingsorte. Die Kinder entdeckten einen Skatepark, den sie sofort ins Herz schlossen, verbrachten Stunden auf ihren Boards und nahmen sogar Unterricht, um ihre Fähigkeiten weiter auszubauen.

Abseits des Skateparks erkundeten wir die raue Küste von Ericeira, genossen die entspannte Atmosphäre der Stadt und dachten über etwas nach, das wir in acht Monaten Leben im Wohnmobil gelernt haben: Manchmal tut es der ganzen Familie gut, sich auch mal etwas Zeit für sich selbst zu nehmen.

Während die Kinder jeden Tag in vollen Zügen genossen, hüteten Kristin und ich jedoch ein Geheimnis.

Eine Überraschung, die wir seit einigen Monaten geplant hatten – und die uns zum ersten Mal seit Beginn dieses Abenteuers für eine Weile vom Vanlife wegführen würde.

Wir sind eine deutsch-maltesische vegane Familie mit zwei Kindern und reisen Vollzeit mit unserem Wohnmobil durch Europa. Dabei teilen wir die Höhen, Tiefen und den ganz normalen Alltag des Familien-Vanlife.
