After riding 5000km on my Canyon Grizl Ive decided I want to have the option to ride more technical/hilly terrain. Swapped the derailleur cage from GS to SGS without any problems. The tension spring inside was rather dirty. Not as sealed as I expected. Bought a new 51t slx cassette to keep the look similar. Sized the chain according to the Shimano manual but ended up taking off one more link.

After a short 23km test ride and some fine-tuning I must say I'm quite happy. Didn't get to use the biggest chainring too much but it's exactly what I wanted. That extra gear I kept on clicking for before but wasn't there.

  1. I also have a grizl and upgraded to a 51t via the garbaruk route and am pretty happy with it. It would be kind of nice if most gravel groupsets were 51t compatible without making cage changes. I am jealous of your front derailleur hanger. I lost mine and it has been a pain to replace. A chain guide would be nice.

  2. Bigger gears more better. When I built my bike I went with 52t. I live in mountains and hate climbing so I wanted all the help I could get. (My bike is my primary mode of transportation now.)
