It looks horrible and that’s because I got it for free from a guy who was throwing it away! I’m excited to start my two wheeled journey!
Edit: I don't plan to do much "serious" cycling, mostly just riding around campus. I was able to find some info about the bike. It was made by The New Hudson Cycle Co (who also made motorcycles), it's a 3-speed, and it was made in the early 1960s.

Watch out, bikes are addictive! Remember the law of diminishing returns as you get more advanced bikes. In other words, a 1000 dollar bike can do 90 percent of what a 6000 dollar bicycle can do.
What are your fix up plans for it before first time riding it?
Love it! Looks like the bikes many of us grew up with. We had a couple of these in my family over the years, great adventure machines.
Is that a three-speed or a five-speed?
I have a bike with a similar riding posture, and liked it when my neck bothered me and I needed to sit up and see all around.
You may want to swap out the cushy seat for something like a Brooks B17 with springs, but later. Have it serviced at your local bike shop, and see if anything needs to be replaced. The internal hub is nice to have for city/utility cycling.
