We were looking for rain and wind!!! And we found it in March in Ireland :))
This bike trip with my dad was really special. Looking back, it might have been one of the best preparations I could have had for Traka. I wanted rain, wind, and tough conditions,….. just to get used to being uncomfortable on the bike hahaha and because I expected a lot of rain it wasn’t to bad!!
We still disagree about who came up with the idea in the first place, but I remember riding behind my dad a few years ago and being incredibly annoyed by the wind roaring in my ears. This time, I had no choice but to embrace it.
Northern Ireland completely exceeded my expectations :ooooooo the people in the pubsssss, and the landscape felt incredibly wild compared to what I’m used to in Belgium and the Netherlands.
Splitting the G was harder than expected, but in the end, we managed……. 😛
For those asking: I’m riding the Rose Backroad Unsupported. It has integrated lights, and I can even charge my phone while riding, which is honestly amazing on longer trips!!!! And when making content hahaha And if you’re ever like I’m gonna buy this bike, use this link haha https://www.rosebikes.com/bikes/gravel/adventure/backroad/models?amc=con.blbn.544053.565848.15157304&smc=Backroad
And alsooooo… if you’d like to try some kit from Universal Colours, you can use code SARA15 for 15% off. :))))
Thanks for watching :)))))

Headwinds build character and separate the wheat from the chaff… that video was once again heel mooi 😅
So good!
The idea for this trip came from Sara. She wanted to cycle to Ireland. Together we turned it into a journey through Donegal and Northern Ireland, and it turned out to be a great decision.
We experienced the real Ireland. Not the postcard version with green hills and sunshine, but rain, strong winds, icy rain, and long days on the bike. At times we found ourselves wondering whose idea this had been in the first place. Yet those very conditions are what made the journey unforgettable.
With St. Patrick’s Day in Belfast, the Six Nations in a packed pub, and the rugged coastline of Donegal, this was a true Irish experience.
And yes, the rain jacket was absolutely fantastic. It had plenty of opportunities to prove itself.
Thank you, Sara, for the adventure, the miles, and this beautiful film. Through this film, you show once again that you are a true artist. It is remarkable how you always manage to keep looking, observing, and creating, even in the toughest conditions.
An artist on a bicycle.
Wat magisch om dit te kunnen doen met je vader. En het is natuurlijk extra magisch om het in zo'n bijzonder mooie omgeving te doen.
