Hello Bromptonauts! <3
After a long days ride through woods, train stations, an airport, and other multi-modal transportation experiments, this vintage 2020 foldable iron donkey just does not want to close it's shining eyes, preventing me from sleeping.
Naturally, this new used foldable iron donkey user has some questions:
- I would love to hear some feedback if someone can judge the condition with the last photos.
- There is very little rust of the very edges of the main hindges, but it is on the surface. Is it normal with those foldable donkeys? What do I do about it?
Cheers!
PS I have long licked the windows of Brompton stores clean, very happy with this catch.

Welcome to the club OP taking full advantage of multimodal transport I see. Condition looks really good from the looks of things and a little rust is normal a dab of grease on the contact points will prevent it getting any worse.
From the pics the condition looks pretty good, just make sure to oil your hinges every now and then and it should be fine. I do it any time I clean my brommie. Mines from 2006 and still going very strong.
If its on the edges where the frames connect there is a muk off rust remover/protector which is great. But honestly, it’s probably just surface rust and absolutely fine.
Welcome to the fold!
Great pics
So looking very tidy, in the pictures, Id’ check the rear wheel rim should be a groove in the wall you can feel with thumb nail, if you can’t should look at replacing, might just be the low def picture. Problem with judging is you could buy a brand new brompton, leave in your garden for 3 months and could look 10 years old. Get a chain checker or ruler, to measure chain wear, having to carry out a complete drive train swop costs.
Steel rusts obviously, not teaching to suck eggs, brommieplus.com sell stainless steel fixings for brakes and you can get a rust inhibitor for other parts, should you desire, make sure you don’t get on brakes or rims.
Enjoy the adventure that comes with owning a Brompton
Excellent ๐ what country?
I put a little ACF50 on potential rust spots on mine and itโs working great so far (6 years on)
