I'm preparing to set out from Chicago next weekend. I'll be riding with a friend as far as Minneapolis and continuing solo to Deluth where I will begin circumnavigating Lake Superior clockwise. My past tours include the Lake Michigan circle tour and the TransAm Trail East to West.
I'd be very appreciative for any resources about the route around Superior, especially the frequency of towns and service stops, good roads to follow, experiences crossing the US/Canada border, whether I will need to change currency, tips for riding through bear country, any sights I should seek out or things I should do! Thx!

sounds awesome!
Safe travels!
Highway 61 north from Duluth will take you to the Pigeon River border crossing. Then it’s about 60km north to Thunder Bay. From there it’s Highway 17 east around Lake Superior to Sault Ste Marie. There’s a small town every couple hundred-ish kilometers in between. Just east of Thunder Bay you’ll want to stop and check out the Terry Fox Monument and the view of the Sleeping Giant. Rainbow Falls Provincial Park is nice. Neys Provincial Park was the site of a WWII pow camp for German officers i believe. Winnie the pooh in White River and the Wawa goose are some other roadside attractions lol. Agawa Bay Campground inside Lake Superior Provincial Park has a Museum/visitors center. The Agawa Petroglyphs are also nearby. Just a few things I can think of! Its a route I’ve traveled many times…never on a bike though!!
Ive only done Erie and Ontario but the border will be gravy and I wouldn’t go overboard exchanging money, I’ve done like $60 and still come home with $40. I’d check if any of your cards have free intl transactions, but if not you’ll pay slightly extra on transactions.
I haven’t looked at the route in a while on the Canadian side but I’d take every opportunity to get off trans Canada and likewise 28 across the UP is a lot of fast moving traffic.
Good luck!
Just did lundington to manitowoc and hugged the southern coast of the UP. The UP is very remote, you need to pack a lot of water and food. Bear came up to my hammock one of the two nights up there. It was smelling my clothes but was scared easily. I would bring bear spray and pack your food/toiletries far from your camp.
