I use a bar end mirror. I don’t like a mirror constantly in my field of view.

Varia has changed my riding. Its a strip on the side of your computer. It’s easy to ignore, but genuinely helpful in creating awareness while keeping your focus on the road ahead.

  3. I have these. My wife gifted me them. I like em. Not disorienting at all but takes a few rides to get used to. Basically you just have to move your head like 15 degrees instead of having to turn 90+ to see behind you. I saw they are quite expensive though so dunno if it’s worth it, that’s your call.

  4. I have them and love it. They are expensive but everytime I ride without the mirror I wish I had it. 100% worth it, very clear vision behind me with a slight head movement, doesn’t bounce around like a mirror mounted on your bike

  5. They work pretty well, the view is pretty narrow, but it does a good job of showing you the road behind you.

I’ll both longsighted and shortsighted (with a macular pit in my left-eye retina as well!), so these are useless.

I tried a pair, maybe not these, but the same general idea. After a few rides, I went back to a glasses frame clip-on mirror. I just couldn’t get the built-in mirror to get good coverage of the road without having to constantly turn my head to align it.

I have them. They are really good at supplementing my radar. However, they have a small field of view and you need to move your head to find the spot where you can see behind you – you can’t just glance at the mirror.

None for me thanks. I’ve already seen the time and place of my death in a vision.

I had one of those mini stick-on mirrors before. Kinda hard to use because the mirror is so close to the eye. Now I just use a rear radar light.

The big thing with these is that the act of turning and looking is quite important for motorists on the other way – consider when you make eye contact with a pedestrian before they cross the road.

  12. I have these and they are fantastic. I also have a Varia radar, hear the beep, look to see that the car is moving over. Would not ride without them.

  13. I never liked them, primarily as it encourages cyclists to communicate with other road users less.

People react to movement. When you look behind you, in prepration for a change of direction change, that subconsciously cues other road users. A lot of the time I’ll see the car behind me brake after I’ve turned my head, which lets me signal and take the lane safely.

By all means use a mirror if it makes you feel comfortable, but it’s not a subistute for turning your head and looking with your eyes.

  14. I have the TriEye glasses and love them. I used to have a mirror attached to my glasses but it was always getting knocked around and your glasses needed to have a shape the mirror could grab. These are inobtrusive and provide a larger field of view than you would think.

  15. The glasses are very nice quality, and the little mirror does work very well, but does take a bit of time to adjust to using it – the mirror is just at the bottom corner of your field of view so it doesn’t really block your view, but you have to glance down to the corner with your eyes to use the mirror. If you turn your head slightly you can also see right behind you.

The glasses themselves are comfortable and I didn’t have any fogging issues.

There are a couple if issues – while the mirror is easy to adjust while wearing and holds in place even on rough roads, when taking off the glasses you need to store it in the case as if you put it in the protective bag/sleeve the mirror gets moved and you have to adjust it again when you put them on.

Also, there are a couple of time if you have the sun to your back, the light can get reflected back into your eye.

Right now I just use my bar end mirror, and don’t really use these glasses with the mirror any more.

  16. My first thought is always; what happens if I have a face plant with this? My face and eyes should be the priority, when considering glasses and helmets. I do have a bar end mirror on my long distance ride. It would not hurt me in a crash. 💥👀😏

Useful for determining the power level of other cyclists, just don’t freak out if it come back as over 9000

  18. I use both a mirror (mounted to my glasses) and a Varia. Used to have one mounted to my old helmet but that kind stunk. I think they are a great safe pairing. I don’t look into the mirror a lot and usually only after I get a Varia warning. This way I can see if the dude is riding the white line coming at me (and I better move) or if they are safely in the roadway giving me space. I won’t ride without either one on the road. I ride mostly on rural roads however, where traffic is not continuous. In the city it might be a different story and you might need the mirror glasses even more. Varia will be endlessly going off with oncoming traffic. It will become rather useless as a warning device. But on “regular” roads the Varia is awesome and it has saved me (really) quite a few times.

This specific brand is great. I love it. I don’t ride without it. I feel safer. Once you get used to it your experience change for good. 100% recommended. TriEye Glasses. 👓 I am short sighted by the way.

  20. Just rode Bicycle Ride Across Georgia last week and, in past years, there have always been people with the clip-on mirrors. This year, i started noticing more of these glasses with the integrated mirror in them. I generally like the idea of them but, just like my Varia, I don’t think it’ll ever replace a shoulder check for me. The Varia is nice but plenty of times a car hovering behind me hasn’t registered on it.

If someone got me a pair of these glasses, I’d wear them but, personally, I don’t think I’d spend the money. It’s not that they aren’t any good, I’ve just been riding for so long without one that I don’t think I’d reliably use it.

  21. I’ve had TriEye glasses for well over a year and won’t ride without them AND my Varia.

Vastly superior to the clip on mirror because the mirror stays in position.
