The Trans Dinarica begins! After riding from Munich to the official start point in Tolmin, Slovenia, it’s time to get going properly. This video covers the first five days on the route itself, riding from Tolmin through Slovenia and into Croatia, finishing up on the Adriatic coast in Crikvenica.
Bill and I are taking our time with this one, and these first few days set the tone perfectly. Highlights include the stunning Skocjan Caves, crossing the border into Croatia, and arriving at the coast.
An extended 45 minute version of this episode is available to channel members, if you’d like to watch more and support the channel it’s just £1.99 a month.
The Trans Dinarica is a 5,500km bikepacking route crossing eight countries through the Balkans — Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Albania.
Thank you for watching.

It begins! I just finished your trans am series from a year and a half ago, and was pumped when I saw you were getting ready for this trip! You are incredibly inspiring, and I hope to do something like this when I am done in college. Thanks for the videos and keep it up!
I could see his chain stretch from down here😂😂😂
6:55 cool Osmo Pocket case, I presume 😊
make sure you bed in those new brake pads… otherwise they wont last long (maybe even shorter than 300 k…) ….. don’t know how?
you can find how to do it properly all over the internet!
and keep an eye on the slack of your belt…. seems like a bit too loose….. keep those vids coming!
just stop braking!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
awsome, i look forward to following along!
I really like watching these long tours to places I never give a thought about. I mean, who thinks about Slovenia to go and visit? So I am glad you guys are! There's so much beauty in these places.
Thanks for the new video! Most welcome.
Hey, anyone not a member yet? We get the extended version, so get yourselves signed up for even more Mat and Bill adventures!!
Thanks for posting this trip, a friend and I are starting out our Trans Dinarica similarly in August…taking the train to Munich and riding to start the TD in Slovenia. We don't have time to ride as much of the route as you have planned only getting as far south as Mostar. Thanks for the preview!
How do you like your bull horn handlebar setup?
To think you may have taken the Kona. Grief!
I wonder how many kinds of Schnapps you'll have tried by the end
Slovenia was lovely.
And Croatia so far.
In Bosnia there will be piles of rubbish in the nature. I learned that from Keep Smiling Adventures video where he rode through Bosnia.
You two are really roughing it. LOL. Great looking tour.
the hill at the 3 minute mark reminds me of the hills here in the philippines, that's what I have to deal with on the regular, annd I also push up them! XD BIll is a machine with 2 feet and two wheels though
I’m curious to know what Bill thinks about the wood stacking skills of the Slovenians? 😂
I'm glad you got Bill to tag along with you on the trip. Having someone to watch stuff while taking bathroom breaks or going into a shop real quick is always nice. Beautiful roads and country to ride. Wow.
Great tour and absolutely beautiful scenery. Maybe Bill could say a few words about his bike as well, I’d be interested to hear more about it. Enjoy the ride and stay safe!
Bills got his guns, and we got our sheep n rain n hills, dream holiday 😂❤😢
Hyped:)
Oh man…epic. Amazing looking places. Rivers look unreal! But…what was behind the curtain? Thank you again for sharing the adventure 🤘🏻🤘🏻😎
Thanks!
Phenomenal
Hey. Trip looks amazing. Could you ask Bill what handlebar bags he has? Cheers
Really fantastic looking ride. Crazy navigation through all the little connecting trails and some short punchy climbs. Nice to see you “roughing it”! Mundane question, but I am about to add Tailfin panniers to the rear arch. Do you know what size yours are – 16l or 22l?
Arugula pizza??
