After spending several weeks in Narbonne, France, we found ourselves asking a bigger question than just, “Did we enjoy it?”

The real question became: Could we actually live here?

In this video, we reflect on our time experiencing Narbonne’s culture, daily rhythm, traditions, food scene, walkable streets, Roman history, beach access, train connections, and vibrant markets. From mornings along the canal and Saturdays at the local market to afternoons at Narbonne Plage and evenings in neighborhood cafés, we didn’t just visit — we immersed ourselves.

Narbonne isn’t one of France’s most talked-about cities. It’s not flashy or overwhelming. But sometimes the places that don’t shout the loudest are the ones that quietly stay with you.

We explore what daily life really feels like here — the cost of simple pleasures, the accessibility of culture, the pace of the city, the sense of community — and whether this historic southern France town could realistically be a place we’d call home.

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to spend a few weeks living in a European city rather than just passing through… or if Narbonne, France is on your radar as a travel destination or potential home base… this honest reflection is for you.

Because sometimes the most important travel question isn’t, “Was it beautiful?”

It’s, “Could we see ourselves living here?”

Thanks for traveling with us.

  1. Awesome video Mark and Pam! It’s great that you got to slow down and experience Narbonne as a local. It looks like a very comfortable place to stay for a while. Would love to get to Carcassonne but couldn’t arrange it for this year (Normandy and Brittany instead). Thanks for sharing your time in Narbonne.

  2. I love Narbonne, we first visited in 2002, since then we’ve had many 1/2 day visits.
Then 10 months ago we stayed in an apartment overlooking the Canal de Robine, everyday we just walked the 15 minutes along the towpath into the city.
We saw and did things in Narbonne we’d not seen or done before and after a week came away with still so many things to see/do
Did you get to visit Charles Trenet’s house whilst you were there ?

  5. I was born and grew up in Narbonne and I live now at about 7km from it in a small village., after 12 years spent in London. I'm happy you're enjoyed it but mind the wind, when it blows it could become an headache, but I'm used to it. When we go to town, we always enjoy to sit down, no rush, and have a cup of coffee (Expresso)😊😋
