Bit worried about this threaded headset, I got it installed by a bike shop. He reckons it's the bare minimum, should I buy another shorter stack threaded headset or stay as is.

Been a while since I’ve run one, but that top locknut seems extraordinarily tall.
If the top nut grips tightly, I wouldn’t worry – the threads have to be shorter than the headset stack anyway.

with the stem in, does it tighten down properly, nice and tight?
the risk is that you will strip the threads right off your locknut (or fork)… but thats why you are posting…
Generally you want to see minimum 4-5 threads making good contact
