Been riding bikes for over half a century, but I had never attempted a rebuild or restoration until my mother came upon this beautiful electric plum trek that had been hanging in a Florida garage for decades.

Watching Gary’s Projects on YouTube turned me onto Evapo-Rust, and removing rust from old parts is just soooooooo damn satisfying!

I learned how to make a chain whip via GCN

Learned how to do a basic tuneup from the bike farmer.

Learned how to dial in derailleurs and brakes thanks to park tool videos.

Learned not to use a magnet on ball bearings.

Learned all about bike greases.

Learned a small frame really is too small for me.

Learned how to let a project go.

Thanks to this community for the good vibes and knowledge sharing.

Onto the neX-bike!!!

I saw pics and was like “learned about this stuff from Gary.”

Come here and you’re like “yep, Gary”

Cool stuff. Glad to see it working well.

Really satisfying is the right description.

u/garysprojects Is very inspiring for realistic restoration

  3. Before going straight to evapo-rust, try aluminum polish. I’ve found most comes off with it without resorting to the toxic stuff. Next I’d try balled up aluminum foil and a dash of soapy water, then evapo-rust.

Just a suggestion, you do you boo.
