I’d run new rim tape and inspect that hole on the exterior of the rim often. I’d be more concerned with it collecting water than being structurally unsound.

What do you value your time at in $/hr? Make that number A.

Including fuckups, do overs, research time, and troubleshooting, how many hours do you think this project will take? Make that number B.

Imagine you got stranded in the middle of the road many many miles from home with a broken rim. How much $ would you pay to not have that shitty experience? Make that number C. Include the cost of the uber home in that premium.

What is the cost of a replacement rim? That is D.

    If (A*B) + C > D, buy a new rim.

Christ , that was unlucky. Could you solder the whole shut yo make it airtight?

  4. Rim is most likely fine. Just replace the rim tape, add a plug to the tire, or replace tire.

  5. The only good news there is it is your rear wheel. If it all goes pie shaped you’ll have a better chance of controlling the bike 😉

I have no opinion on repairing something like that as I just wouldn’t. I don’t mean to dissuade you if you want to try. But due to the fact that the most expensive alloy rim is around 100€, many are a lot less, and assuming you can replace like for like to avoid spoke length issues, re-lacing a new rim onto the hub and spokes is not very hard and I trust a wheel I build over a wheel with a hole in it all day long and twice on sundays…
