If anyone with real power reads this and believes it — they will make bicycles illegal. So just shut up. I like my bicyclea

The cyclist spends their money on other things since they don’t have the other expenses.

And people who wear hats, I mean, c’mon! They don’t buy combs or brushes, no pomade or gel, they don’t buy mirrors or pay barbers and stylists. They don’t support the hair transplant industry or buy products like Rogain. Meanwhile, Regals movie theaters… am I right? See what I’m sayin’? World is doomed.

Jokes aside, i think i has been shown that when you remove cars and pedestrianize streets and add bike parking retail sales have gone up, specially for hospitality.

This is some boomer-ass “save and forward to ten friends” schlock that has only the smallest association with reality. It just happens to be aimed at cyclists.

I also biked to McDonald’s today…. So in a way I did contribute to the GDP

  7. God, is this another one of those nauseating LinkedIn wisdom posts?
Cycling vs McDonald’s is such a dumb dichotomy.

The vast majority of cyclists (in America at least) also own cars, so their core assumption is wrong.

Also cycle tourism is a thing. Bicyclists spend plenty of money in small towns far away from expressways that otherwise wouldn’t get much tourism money. Many mountain towns get a ton of bicycle vacationers during their spring/summer/fall months, which means they aren’t relying on skiing for their entire income. And then there’s all the bike races and events that bring thousands of people from all around the world, like the Unbound Gravel in Kansas.

As far as healthcare spending goes, couldn’t you say that anyone who exercises regularly is bad for the environment? A jogger is arguably worse as they are spending far less on gear for similar health benefits.

  9. This is satire from years ago. It’s been stripped of context to create rage bait

The comment was intended as an ironic critasism of economists over using effect on GDP as the assessment of wether something is good or bad for the economy.

I believe it was part of a talk that went on to detail the numerous indirect ways that cyclist add to the economy, especially the local and micro economy. Often because they are not spending large amounts of money running cars.
