The most versatile little bike bar none. With a little bit of tweaking to the gearing and some effort even the Stelvio is possible. Gearing is a 38T chain ring, SRF5W Hub with Brommieplus conversion to 3 sprockets and 18T sprocket giving 21.9 gear inches (I think). Its a 2008 C Line, but not many original parts. No brake fade or overheating on the downhill, mainly because it was a hailstorm.

Tip: do this route in full summer – much better 🙂

Very adventurous of you, and I bet a fantastic feeling of flying as you came down!

Awesome, well done.. 😎 I’ve got plans on something similar this summer, but in Spain..
These little bikes are just unstoppable.. 🚵🏼‍♀️

Wonderful! Does rim heat during ordinary weather worry you?

Is that a watch on your handlebar? Or some other meter/instrument?

  4. Wow nice. but I would be very afraid going downhill on that bike with rim brakes.

What type of Brompton is it? With 12 speeds? How many teeth on the front tray? And which tape? Thanks

That’s really impressive OP glad you didn’t have any brake issues that would be rather terrifying.

That view of the Eastern route to Stelvio looks just like the picture on wikipedia 😄

Amazing! It can take your breath away even if you go down.

Is that a blizzard at the Umbrail border station?

16″ wheels x 38 tooth chain ring / 18 tooth sprocket x 5/8 [note] = 21.1 gear inches, so almost one inch lighter, depending on actual tyre diameter (i.e. calculation based on distance from road surface to centre of rear axle under load, but who’s counting :-).

I am currently stuck at 33.5″ with a regular S5 (Summit based frankenhub) and 44/14 and scouting for non-invasive ways of going lower. So far a twin chain ring for manual (as in: fingers on the chain) shifting, looks like the best option for my use case.

[note] 1st gear’s ratio for SRF5(W) in John Allen’s hubratios spreadsheet

This is amazing. I was wondering what you did to the gears. So it wasnt just Bromptoneering, also Bromptonengineering
