This journey started in London, United Kingdom, with one goal:
Ride back to Dortmund, Germany, using trains, ferries, bike paths, and whatever the road throws at me.
No racing.
No support vehicle.
Just me, my gear, and my Cube Nature Pro.
The adventure begins by taking the rail network across the UK.
Travelling with a bike on British trains can be part of the adventure itself — finding the right carriage, lifting loaded panniers, and trying not to miss connections.
But once everything is rolling, it feels like the trip has truly started.
From Harwich, I boarded the Stena Line ferry to Hoek van Holland in the Netherlands.
This is the moment where the journey changes from a UK trip… into a full European bikeTouring adventure.
Arriving in the Netherlands feels like entering cycling paradise.
Perfect bike lanes.
Smooth roads.
Clear signs everywhere.
The Dutch cycling infrastructure is honestly incredible.
You can ride for hours through small villages, canals, farmland, and quiet forests without feeling stressed by traffic.
And sometimes, after a full day on the bike, all you want is a warm shower and a bed.
That’s why I mixed different types of accommodation along the route:
Hotels for recovery,
a trekkers hut for a more basic overnight stop,
and one night camping in a tent.
Each one changed the feeling of the journey completely.
Camping after a long day of cycling is hard to describe.
You arrive tired.
You build your small temporary home.
Cook some food.
And suddenly the world becomes quiet.
No schedule.
No city noise.
Just the sound of wind and nature.
Moments like this are why I love travelling by bike
For this trip I used my Cube Nature Pro.
Reliable, comfortable, and capable of handling everything from city streets to gravel paths.
Not a racing bike.
Not an ultra-light setup.
Just a solid touring companion that carried me across countries without problems.
Sometimes the best bike is simply the one that keeps going.
This wasn’t about speed.
It was about the experience of travelling slowly enough to actually see the world between two places.
Thanks for joining me on this journey from London to Dortmund.
