CALANDER ICELAND DIVIDE is a short video of our cycling trip in Iceland.
By the end of 2021, my father and I came up with the idea of a cycling trip through Iceland. In june 2022, we finally flew to Reykjavik, ready for two weeks of adventure. The route is a north-south divide, starting in Akureyri. It was strongly inspired by the route published by Montanus on Bikepacking.com . It was slightly modified to avoid tracks with excessive snow.
Conditions has been pretty arsh during spring in Iceland. Thus, the Highlands tracks were still closed during our trip. This left us with a solid 6 days without meeting a single soul.
The track conditions evolved from slowly rideable, to not rideable! As the images tells, the weather is changing quickly in the highlands. Overall, not much sun was seen during the trip!
Iceland have been super-demanding for the bikes, more than I expected. The mix of sand, water and ice is very arsh for the drivetrain, and the destroyed lava paths are super rough in general.
Thank you to everyone involded in the trip, to the bikepacking community for the advices, Donat for the camera, Tom @Alcofribas for all the help with creating this video.

awesome!!
Yes, 2022 was the most horrible summer in Iceland. But you should always cross the rivers with the bike on your downriver side. I am happy you found the not widely known hut Ölduver. Few do.
enjoyed this video! Keep up the good work fred!!!!!
I wish my father would have wanted to do trips like this with me. It doesn't get any better than that!
Great little film. I'm heading to do almost exactly the same this June with 4 friends. Crossing fingers for the same tailwind! Roughly how many hours each day did you ride/push/move forward for? We've only got a week to get across, so thinking some alternative route options might be called for.
Congratulations, great video! where you can find the track
