For those of you who think this was a BS disqualification. Would you allow someone with a hematocrit of 50.1% keep their result?
RCS Sports is as big of a circus as ASO and UCI in general, a warning and a fine would've been enough
they talk so much garbage about rider safety but they don't look at their own huge shortcomings
I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with an Italian being 2nd, that's one way to get rid of your competition, look she won today
just like at the men's Giro when the leading group that had Italians in it was riding in the motorbike's slipstream, fuck your hipocrisy
Am I the only one who think it too hard to disqualifying Wiebes for the entire Giro. Yeah her bike was like 20 gram too light. Then give her a time penalty maybe 2 min or something like that. She would clearly have won stage 2 if she was allowed to participate. It is a team mistake not Wiebes. What are she supposed to do – weight her bike before every race.
Her bike was found to be 20g too light…!
The only way to win against Lorena Wiebes: Kick her out of the race. What a shame UCI.
would any race disqualify pogacar or remco or matty vdp or any popular gc candidate like that in a men's race? no, no they would not.
All the dutch boys crying in the comments for Lorena 😂😂
Disqualified for 0.75 ounces, half the weight of 1 power gel. Insane.
I'm surprised that the UCI rules know no other consequence than 'elimination or disqualification' no matter in what way the 'bicycle does not comply with the regulations' but thats how it is – really unlucky for Wiebes who was clearly the strongest and would have won today as well. Maybe the rules need to be changed but thats easier said than done, because every possibility will be 'abused' by the teams – so if you allow +/- 20gr, teams will go 20gr lighter instantly etc.
You can't just say that Lorena Wiebers was expelled from the Giro and not explain why?!
Absolutely disgusting, disgraceful decision kicking her out of the Giro and not just relegating her to last place of the stage. What a bunch of idiots 🤬
well UCI, this decision agains Wiebes shows how incompetent you really are. I'm not going to watch this Giro, thank you for ruining the experience.
Giro is interesting without Wiebes.. What's about yoir opinion? That's UCI rules..

Hey UCI. Instead of disqualification, let's give Wiebers a warning (you know, like when a rider misses a required blood test), let her keep racing, and just hand her a 20g weight at the start of stage 2 she needs to carry in her pocket. That way, we'll realize it MAKES NO DIFFERENCE!
journalistically, just happening to mention that the winner from yesterday was disqualified but not explaining seems like a freshman fail.
surely beavers could have been disqualified for stage one ,big fine for the team but allowed to keep racing…Beavers doesnt need a lighter bike to win ..
WTH is wrong with the UCI?
Making a farce of the sport that they allegedly govern.
Relegation on the stage and a fine for the team would have been a sufficient penalty for Wiebes. But no, instead they just take the gloss of any sprint win for the rest of the race.
Really feel like ignoring the DQ reason does not do any favours. Reads extremely harsh. Everywhere from full cynic; they want to stir up controversery, to benign "oh they need to keep to the rules". I feel likethis wouldn't happen to a top male rider. Chapeau to Elisa Balsamo, winning on homesoil and at least helping to legitimize the merit of having the pink jersey. She deserves it going forward regardless.
I am disgusted by the actions of the UCI. I've asked Gemini about this issue and the case against Lorena Wiebes is not at all strong. Shame on the UCI
The peloton must not allow this…they must support each other…Balsamo should have said no to pink jersey…
Congratulations to Balsamo and Lidl Trek! All i want to say since all the others are only focusing on the person whos not in the race :/ Yes i miss her too!!
1:42 nice arses they sure can give them a good wiggle
It's like a really good VAR moment. Who is the new win more than one in a row? Who? How many? Honi soit qui mal y pense!
Way to ruin the race by DQ'ing Wiebes
Harsh…but it is the rule. My question is: why are SD Worx running her bike so close to the limit anyway. She is a sprinter, and super dominant. Having a bike on the weight limit isn't going to do anything other than cause stress like it has.
Wow. Not explaining what happened to disqualify her is an insane fail.
Sorry Wiebes, karma's a bitch…
