In this video, I take my road bike outside for a normal weekday ride around Vanhankaupunginlahti – one of the quietest and greenest areas you can reach from Helsinki city life in just a few minutes.

This ride was only around 17 km, but it shows one of the things I still find surprising about Helsinki: how quickly the city can disappear.

Forest paths, water, small beaches, almost no cars… and somehow, all of this is still part of the city.

I also show my road bike setup, talk a little about cycling culture in Finland, shared paths, city bikes, cargo bikes, and what it feels like to cycle through Helsinki as part of normal everyday life.

Would you expect this to be so close to Helsinki city center?

  1. Nice! Thanks for this video! I've lived my whole life in Helsinki and had no idea about the bird-watching spot! πŸ˜…
