In this video I cycle my first ever coast to coast. Watch me as I take on the hills of the Forest of Bowland, Yorkshire Dales and the Yorkshire Wolds. There’s guaranteed to be epic scenery, steep climbs, pretty Lancashire and Yorkshire villages. Can I make it without any of my usual mishaps?
For details of my ride, please check out my Strava.
I stayed at The Crown Hotel Boroughbridge, I’d highly recommend this hotel for your coast to coast.

I was pleased that my Torm.cc Merino Light Jersey performed incredibly well and kept my temperature regulated in changing conditions.

Road bike trip 👍🏻🚴👍🏻 excellent adventure…and you mean (tea time) we are Northwest folks 😉 (£100) for a room for the night 🤔 at least Dick Turpin had the courtesy of wearing a mask when he robbed you at gun point 😉
Brilliant 👏👏
Done this three times….. great video……great memories.
That's one ride I have on my bucket list, that 20% hill looks a killer been up it in a car that was bad enough, and u missing the train a bit of a downer, hope u managed to make it home ok great vid.
Great effort John. Well done.
Am doing this end of June. Hopefully will be a bit warmer then! You had 2 tough days on the bike there. Great vid and well done!
Lovely bike that
Thats a superb video John, those miles are out of my pay grade and your editing has really improved.
Beautiful scenic video. Loving it, thank you. I want to do that route now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fantastic route, I would say I found the first day more challenging, pay off is the beautiful scenic countryside of the Yorkshire dales.
Nice one John.
You were one brave lad doing this ride in unpredictable weather with a headwind at this time of year.
It is a lovely ride and had been on my bucket list since 2021 and I did it last year.
I was blessed. I live near Doncaster and did it in mid June last year.
Got train from home to Morecambe n spent first night in Travelodge in Morecambe.
When I got off train in Morecambe it was raining and I thought bloody hell here we go …but no that was the only moisture I experienced.
So Day1 ..Morecombe to Grassington…tail wind av temp 22c
Had a good BnB in Grassington at £65
Day 2 was the longest as I couldn’t get breakfast till 8.30am and got into York at 7pm n stayed in a Travelodge at £40.
Last day short n sweet got into Bridlington at 3pm BnB for £50
Then train home on day 4.
I was blessed, wonderful weather never fell below 22c and best of all a tail wind till I got to Driffield and it turn to SEly.
I really enjoyed it .
When I loaded my Garmin it said 14 climbs in total and by the time I’d got to Boroughbridge I had 2 left as you’ll know …the brief one out of Pock to Millington and the one from Millington Pastures upto Huggate.
I hope you enjoyed it when you did….i highly recommended that you do it in summer and do another day or two just to enjoy the wonderful scenery and see the route out of the early spring period and into summer when it’s in its majesty and a lot warmer.
But nice post mate….it was good reminiscing.
Bessies….Ron
Really enjoyed this. Great filming, editing and music, well done John.
Excellent achievement – I did the ride in six days! I’m in awe of people who can do big mileages. In my sixties now, it’s never going to happen as I potter along on my 3 speed Brompton 😁
The important thing is that, however we travel, we do it. We get on our bikes and get out there and I LOVE seeing the many varied ways we do it.
Two days is a great achievement on this hilly and beautiful route. Well done!
I rode the coast to coast for a nursing home charity between Whitehaven and Redcar (125 miles) in 6 hours 38 minutes, with 2 stops for sandwiches and tea. Slow for me but because it was a charity ride, I had to finish.
I did this ride with two friends. We did it over 3 days! I live in Ripon and grew up in Boroughbridge! (I sang a Christmas carol in the Crown when I was about 8!) This video brought back so many memories of when we did this route! Thank you for your time and well done!!
Well done John. It truly is a fantastic ride
I came across last week a nutter who did it one day reverse as I saw him finish after 11pm on the prom here in Morecambe 😮
Great video, Greenhow is a brute. Yorkshire Dales are spectacular but they make you pay in effort to enjoy them.
I enjoyed your film and that you included parts where you plans didnt work out as expected. Well done!
Done this twice cycle camping full load. Over several days, now in my late 60’s. But still love the route, it’s beautiful. Thanks for the videos
Just completed this route, all I can say is wow, stunning scenery, amazing roads, villages farmlands. It's tough, really really tough. Not the distance but the hills. The hills can't be underestimated. For the hardy legged only. We did it over 3 days. Big climbs, impossible climbs, lots of sharp rises and dips. No wonder so many use e bikes.
Great effort John, decent jersey that.
