DAY 3: The stage opened with a serious climb out of Gstaad, the “Hollywood of the Alps” looking glamorous while I ground my way up.
From there, the route drops into the Simmental Valley, where centuries-old wooden farmhouses line the road, and the Simme River churns alongside you through meadows and across its many bridges.

A light drizzle was a constant companion throughout, never quite heavy enough to stop, never quite light enough to forget.
This stage had far more gravel than anything before it, long stretches winding through forest tracks and riverside paths, with the vintage railway occasionally rolling past between the chalets and the mountains.

The valley gradually opened up, the Simme widening and calming, until the deep blue of Lake Thun finally appeared below at Spiez. That view alone is worth the climb. After that the beautiful Interlaken and Lake Brienz.
But the real highlight came near the end. The Giessbach Falls, where water plunges 400 metres down into Lake Brienz, one of those moments where you stop the bike and just stare. From there the route leads down to Lake Brienz, until you breeze into Meiringen to close out the stage.
After three days of rain, drizzle and big climbs, this ending felt like a gift.

About the Route
The route crosses Switzerland from Geneva to Rorschach, linking the country’s most iconic lakes. It’s one of the most scenic cycling routes in Europe, a mix of lakeside paths, quiet roads, and stunning landscapes that changes every few kilometres.
