Don't go bigger than 17 inch rims in 4wd like Hilux, Thar, D-max, fortuner etc. A 17 inch rims is good enough for a tyre as big as 37-40. A 20 inch rims on 31s and 32s inch tyres will give you no sidewall, shorter and weak sidewalls are prone to puncture when air down on trails when you're off the pavement. It may in that tuny hole, but when the trail is full of rocks, hard roots, rutted out, wet and muddy that when the sidewalls play a huge role. It's a simple logic "more rubber more traction".
