It's a total of 45 cm (17.7 inches) wide and filled with storm drains, on a high traffic road with buses and other heavy vehicles as well as a narrow sidewalk where there could be strollers, wheelchairs etc. Next to this bridge there's another 8-lane bridge dedicated to cars (visible in the top right corner of the picture).

I know infrastructure in Stockholm is challenging due to the many islands and old bridges, but there must have been a safer way to do this.

both the bike lane and the pedestrian walkway look like they belong to the tiny people realm

  2. Make it one-way for busses, close it for cars. Other lane for bikes.

    Problem solved.

That’s a shame indeed. You deserve to lose tonight hockey match (cheers from Switzerland)!

Thats better the average portuguese cycle path, lol. Not saying much for our standarts though ,  hahah

  5. There’s a few bike lanes by me where the end of the painted bike symbol go into the gutter

  6. In the US that’s what I refer to as a “state sanctioned murder zone.” Because in the US if a driver hits (and kills) a bicyclist or pedestrian or scooter rider, they’re unlikely to face any repercussions. Especially if there’s white paint on the road. Even if the white paint is as ridiculous as that. A lot of jurisdictions here have laws saying driver’s have to pass bicyclists with at least 3 feet of clearance. Most white-paint bike infrastructure in my area doesn’t provide a 3′ buffer.

  7. I just busted my jaw taking a bicycle lane this narrow over here in the US. Hit the curb/ditch cuz I only had a fraction of room for error and went flying over the handlebars. Three fractures and jaw wired shut until further notice lmao

Bike lanes are such a joke sometimes

I’ve seen them half that width in London.

So narrow they can’t fit the bike symbol in the lane even squeezing to half size.

It’s to keep the bikes completely on the right not to bother the car drivers. Very clever! /s

  10. I doubt most sprinters could hold this line in a sprint, like Philipsen would have trouble for sure.

  11. If you are intested, the max width bike in Belgium would not fit on this bike path

This lane could only fit a bike as big as the one stenciled on the road. So no, not for ants, but for ferrets maybe?

We have that here in Italy too… do you have some roundabout where this bicycle lane continues? It gets comically dangerous lmao

I don’t think Sweden hits my radar that much, if at all, for social media looks at countries and their bike friendliness. Is Sweden generally a good or bad place to ride a bike relative to the world?

This definitely sucks a LOT, but some american cities would see this as progress that the city even acknowledges bicycles exist at all, where if Sweden is usually more like Denmark then this would be an incredibly confusing failure.

You see, they’re making an effort to make US tourists feel right at home. I for one, appreciate it.

Wow. Ants get a dedicated bike lane now.

I mean, at that size, that bike lane is for ants, right?

  17. At this point just add traffic calming and make the whole bridge a bike street.

  18. Looks like a standard bike lane where I come from in California. Lucky to have one.

  19. You’re on a narrow bridge. Where do you expect to fit a full bike lane?

  20. Equivalent_Pitch7363 on

I like how they made the bicycle symbol smaller to fit in the new tiny lane, truly chef’s kiss

  21. It’s actually better without it. It just gives false perception both for drivers and riders.

  22. Gloomy_Session_3875 on

Paint on the road is not bicycling infrastructure. What’s worse the retaining wall between the bike lane and pedestrian walkway creates a death trap for cyclists.

  23. That’s just a repurposed gutter. I’ve seen better gutter lanes in america, and that’s a low bar

  24. Be real here for a second. What do you want them to do? Make the bridge a meter wider?

  25. When I used to bike commute in Southern California… Around Santa Ana I had to take the road, you could “feel” the car mirrors as they passed you by. Nobody cared for the bikes, so took the sidewalk a lot of times. This was made by someone who Hates bikes!

That’s clearly on a bridge where they gave as much as they probably could. What’s the bike lane do at the end of the bridge?
