Got myself an amazing deal on this 2020 Aspero that I built up from a used frameset, fantastic bike but with limited official 42mm rear tire clearance. On my wheels that puts me at shopping for a 40c tire to make the most of the available space. I’m in agreement that bigger tires are better but just cannot utilize a 45/50/mtb tire.

The bike will primarily be ridden on pavement out to some local gravel roads which are not too chunky or technical, so I’d like to stick with a “faster” gravel tire, but I don’t want something thin that will puncture often. I currently have 38c gravelking SK and was considering a pair of 40mm gravelking SS but heard they are not very good. I’ve been told to look at Schwalbe G one RS pro and Spesh Pathfinders, does anyone else have any suggestions for a decently fast and robust gravel tire in 40mm?

As u said u need fast rolling tyres. i recommand Vittoria Terreno Dry 38C.

And go tubeless if you haven’t already.

Very fast and has good grip in dry condiitons. Also it wears relatively fast.

  2. I have 45mm G One RS tires on mine with Reserve 40/44 wheels (25mm IW). In dry conditions, the 45 rear is the largest I’d run, and I could fit a 50 up front for more volume and grip. For mud, a 40 rear and either 40/45 up front would be best.
