I was looking for bikes on craigslist and I found a specialized stump jumper for 900 and a santa cruz super light for 649. I lowballed both of them and I got 700 for the stump jumper and 600 for the super light. I don’t know which ones are better because I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to the subject.

One is a medium, one is a large, you need to do some research and measuring. Better to get the right size frame than trying to make the wrong one fit.
Stumpy. But expect the brakes to need to be bled and the suspension to be serviced.
My rule of thumb when people brought marketplace special used mountainbikes in to the bike shop was “add another $1000cad on top of your purchase price to make it ride good again”
those are both pretty underwhelming. with that budget you should be able to get a decent hardtail made in the last 10 years
I’ve got a 2016 stumpy 27.5 medium (I’m 5’10) that I’ll sell you for 600 in Santa Cruz
Looks like you’re a Bay Area resident. What trails are you riding around here? 90% of trails here you seriously do not need a full sus for.
For that budget you’re way better off buying a new hardtail. We have so much uphill peddling to do and the vast majority of downhills do not require full suspension. Unless you’re an advanced or expert rider and ride the gnarlier stuff. But if you’re shopping for full suspension bikes at that price range I’d guess that’s probably not the case.
Neither. Both are overpriced. For around a grand you should be able to get something decently high-end from like 2017.
Don’t get the Santa Cruz. It’s an at least 15 year old 26” wheeled bike. A Superlight was my first full suspension bike, nearly 25 years ago (with v-brakes). You’ll be happier on a 29er, and you’ll have more tire options.
FYP is getting a little too local lol but neither of those are great deals I would look around more great deals in the Bay Area just gotta keep looking they go quick
Between those two, I would lean toward the Stumpjumper if it fits, rides cleanly, and the suspension is not overdue for service. The Santa Cruz is cool, but older full-suspension bikes can get expensive when pivots, shock service, or odd parts availability come into play. When I was shopping used, the biggest thing was not the badge, it was whether the frame size fit, the fork and shock moved smoothly, the wheels were straight, and the drivetrain was not worn out. Bring a [Park Tool CC-4 chain checker](https://featherab.com/shopit?Park+Tool+CC-4+chain+checker) and budget for a shop inspection if you are unsure. If either seller will not let you test ride and inspect it closely, I would walk.
