Picked this BMX up for $20 from a homeless guy and I’m trying to figure out exactly what I have here. The back tire is pretty flat but was able to ride around the parking lot with it, and it feels smooth.

The bike has been completely rattle-canned purple and green, so most of the original decals are gone, but there’s an embossed logo on the stem/front plate that might be S&M?

Not sure at all though.
From the geometry and welds it feels older and possibly legit mid-school BMX rather than department store stuff. Heavy frame, welded brake mounts, chunky dropouts, etc.

I’m curious:
What brand/frame do you guys think this actually is?
What era is it from?
Does anything stand out as rare/cool/weird?
Is it worth restoring or should I just build it into a crusty rider?
Any clues from the frame geometry or parts?
Could this actually be an old S&M or am I way off?

I’m planning to refurbish it either way because I love fixing things up, but before I dump money into it I wanted to see if BMX people recognize anything here.
Would love any info/history/speculation. Even if it’s just “nah this is a Walmart frame” lol.

That’s a haro logo, im not sure which model it is. Or if thats even the original head. Probably not a department store bike, but also not high end. Almost definitely stolen.

  2. I’m going with department store bike considering it’s got 1 piece cranks / bottom bracket installed. Not common with higher quality bikes. And not something s&m would include on a complete or any bike for that matter coming off their line.
