Hello,

I'm leaving in 2 weeks for my first touring and I'm still on the fence on one thing:

My bike (Ridgeback tour) is equipped with a pelago style rack. I can't find panniers that would mount on both side (support is not wild enough). I'm confident in making the top bag for the rack, but I don't trust myself in making reliable fixation for the panniers.

On the other hand, I can borrow cargo cages that fit the bike. The bags are just a quick sew, and I already have all I need.

Obvious choice is cargo cages, but I like the rack for it's versatility.

Am I missing something? Opinions and thoughts are welcome 🙂

How much weight are you planning on carrying up front? I loved my front rack, but only for light, bulky stuff since having weight so high up isn’t great for handling. Why not a lowrider rack?

Maybe hang panniers from the side of the flat top portion of the rack?

Pelago sell alternative legs for the the rack, which are shaped to place panniers lower to the ground and work great. The top rack is really helpful if you need a bit of extra space for something or other. Bottle cages are good but you are more limited in the size of what you can take vs panniers.
