My city has quite a few industrial/residential interfacing neighborhoods. I find them dangerous places to bike. I think you did everything right, the problem is the driver was looking for a break in traffic and not checking forward until it was almost too late. In hindsight, perhaps getting closer to the vehicle in front of you could have solved this, but then you are presented with more potential risks. Thank goodness you are okay!

i have been trusting my instinct on my bike in situations like this. looks like a trap i’d rather be left up to my own devices to get out of it
