Huge thanks to everyone that helped me with my post last week. My first bikepacking trip, an overnight from Seattle to Manchester State Park, went great!

I did make a last minute decision to buy a much more compact sleeping bag and that made it so I could take everything I needed. I didn’t really take anything I didn’t use, except for the flat kit.

This route was a lot of roads and paved trails, with some gravel, because I was a bit scared about handling in gravel with a large load. I plan to do a lot more off-roading on the next trip. I’ll get a much lighter tent and some fork bags, and that should all help a lot.

Overall it was a lot of fun, I got to camp right next to the beach, and ride next to the ocean with only the sound of my bike rolling and the waves. Met a lot of other bikepackers/bike tourers too!

Congratulations! I’m still acquiring gear for my first trip. But I’m almost ready and I’m so excited!
