Welcome to Japan Tag 2026 – 日本デー (Japan Day) in Düsseldorf, Germany! Once again I filmed the spectacular Japanese fireworks display that traditionally marks the grand finale of the festival. Starting punctually at 11 PM, the breathtaking Hanabi (花火) illuminated the night sky over Düsseldorf in a stunning 25-minute performance along the Rhine River. The 2026 fireworks were presented under the motto: “What a Wonderful World – A Fireworks Display Full of Joy for Life”. Legendary fireworks master Hideki Kubota once again created a magical and emotional show featuring colorful scenes, golden waterfalls, smileys, hearts, and uniquely Japanese pyrotechnic artistry. Japan Tag 2026 took place on May 23rd, 2026 along Düsseldorf’s scenic Rhine Embankment Promenade (Rheinuferpromenade). Around 700,000 visitors gathered throughout the day to celebrate Japanese culture and the longstanding friendship between Japan and Germany, making it one of the largest Japan Day celebrations in Europe.
Japan Tag is an annual festival showcasing Japan’s rich cultural heritage with traditional music and dance, cosplay and karaoke contests, manga and anime culture, martial arts demonstrations, origami and calligraphy workshops, Japanese food stands, and much more.
The evening fireworks once again became the highlight of the festival, transforming Düsseldorf’s skyline into a sea of colors and creating an unforgettable atmosphere along the Rhine river.

The whole pyrotechnic show was stunning to watch, I never seen such beautiful colours in the sky up until this day. I am not sure if I can even enjoy our store-baught fireworks now after I experienced this masterpiece. Thank you, Hideki Kubota for this spectacular display! Hopefully, we see you again next year!
