i picked up this new to me specialized status 170 this spring. Im trying to shed a little bit of weight. I think a lighter wheelset, cranks, and rear shock might be the move. Its sitting at a hair under 40lbs at the moment. im hoping to shed a pound or two. any suggestions?

Seat, tires, wear your water
Why do you want to lose weight?
Heavy builds stronger legs and lungs, and faster downhill
Sweet Birkenstocks
I dont know where you’d take weight off a status whilst keeping it capable on the fun stuff. Maybe a lighter front tire?
I wouldn’t bother with the crank unless that’s more cosmetic. Wheels/tires/shock are gonna be your best bet for weight, but this is a better park bike than a trail bike ya feel
Honestly I wouldn’t. Part of what makes the status so heavy is its frame. It’s way overbuilt compared to something like a Stumpjumper but that’s why they can handle a dual crown and be a dedicated park bike reliably. I’m not saying it can’t be done but I wouldn’t spend too much trying to shed weight.
Wheels are usually the best upgrade. Good job getting a real bike.
