Screw for seatpost? Anyone know if it’s possible to buy just the M5 25 mm screw seen on the pics as number 8? I did go to a hardware store and got a M5 25mm screw but it won’t fit. My Trek dealer said it’s a special screw that they don’t sell them loose and you have to buy the whole clamp mechanism.

why is it special?
It may have left hand threads if it is the one used to tighten the mechanism.

From the picture in the link it does look like it may this fastener and have left hand threads.
The dealer should have known this. His mistake as he could have explained it and then got you to order the part to his shop.

The M5 bolt has a standard coarse pitch of 0.8 mm. For fine pitch, the M5 bolt can have a pitch of 0.5
They are available with various head types.
If it’s not one of these then it’s not an m5 and trek should change the name.
My trek store wouldn’t order me this bolt in either, which is a pain because it’s rusted
