I know nothing about the middle child but own a roscoe 9 (I know you are asking about the 8) and the roscoe 9 is hands down my favorite bike. I’ve have numerous full suspension bikes (currently full suspension is an ibis ripley) and I STILL prefer the way my roscoe feels. Im currently changing the wheels/tires to make it more of a commuter bike to ride with my kids because I can’t give it up.
Or…..RSD middlechild deore build in steel for $2100 usd
I think it depends and what you’re going to be riding. I’ve owned the RSD and it’s on the more aggressive side geo wise. If you’re riding trails that require a lot of pedaling and mostly blue trails the trek would be more comfortable. If you want more of an all mountain ride I would go for the RSD.
I have been shopping around a lot recently for my next nice step up. Kinda limited on what’s in stock around my state but I tried a salsa Timberjack, a Norco or two, then today I went into test out the roscoe’s. I really wanted to like the 7, but the lower components still feel too cheap for the pricetag for my liking. Then I got on the 8 and fell in love, it’s a great out of the box bike. You just can’t beat a good fox fork, upped disks with beefy stopping power. Lightweight as well, dropper post is nice but i haven’t biked since they were out and I dont mind just having a low seat for flow and jumps. Recommend testing it, but now im saving more than i wanted to spend for my July birthday present to myself. It’s very nice
