Our Croatia dream briefly hung by a single Rohloff cable. When it snapped, the first bike shop politely waved us on. The second one did too at first. Rohloff territory. Unknown waters. Only after some serious pleading did the mechanic sigh, hesitate, and finally say the magic words: you can use my tools. I’ll guide you. But you do the surgery.
Somehow, miraculously, the patient survived. Which meant we could ride on, straight back into the Dolomites. Gravel tracing the Rienza, weekend hikers everywhere, and a butterfly that seemed oddly invested in our success. The climb kept stacking up, higher and steeper, until the mountains decided we needed a bit more drama and threw lightning into the mix. Very close lightning.
We dove into a wooden Gasthof for emergency hot chocolate, then pushed on through mist and pine trees toward the Kreuzberg Pass at 1,636 metres, feeling like we’d earned every single metre. The descent promised relief but delivered freshly scraped asphalt and the riding comfort of a wet washboard.
Padola welcomed us with church bells that sounded suspiciously like a standing ovation.

Ik heb mijn Rohloff kabels ook wel eens zelf gerepareerd.
Voor zover ik mij weet te herinneren kon ik gewoon standaard derailleur kabels van Decathlon gebruiken.
Ik snap niet waarom sommige fietsenmakers zo terughoudend zijn.
Anyway, mooi filmpje weer.

Prachtige streek om te fietsen. Jullie brengen me op nieuwe ideeën. Maar dit jaar wordt het toch, bij leven en welzijn, de Camino del Norte.😄vertrekkend vanaf La Rochelle.

Wat een verschrikkelijk stressmoment met die kabelbreuk. Pfff
Zo een afgeschraapte weg is echt gevaarlijk voor tweewielers. Je weet dat pas als je het ooit gedaan hebt. Sturen wordt bijzonder moeilijk omdat het voorwiel zijn eigen weg kiest. Je lijkt de controle volledig te verliezen. Heb dit zowel per fiets als met een moto ondervonden.
