I had this piece of black plastic on the gears near the pedals that I kind of never noticed before break off during my last ride. Is this something that’s important and I need to replace?? Or should I just remove the bits that are hanging on?
not sure if this is just a spoke protector, which I was reading about online and isnt important or if this is something else

Not important but designed to prevent chaindrop from an over shift. Take the rest off but also check out your front derailleur. It may not be functioning correctly.
