What does it take to ride almost non-stop for seven days?

In March 2026, Canyon x DT Swiss All-Terrain Racing ultra-cyclist Alex McCormack set a new Guinness World Record for distance covered in seven days (upright bicycle, undrafted) – riding 3,826.47 km along the Mosel River near Canyon’s HQ in Koblenz, Germany.

Averaging nearly 30 km/h and spending over 18 hours a day on his Canyon Speedmax CFR, Alex pushed through freezing rain, wind, sleep deprivation, and relentless fatigue to break the previous record by just 13 km.

This wasn’t a meticulously planned attempt months in the making. It was an off-the-cuff, full-gas effort with limited resources – a true reflection of the Canyon x DT Swiss All-Terrain Racing team’s “Race Everything” mentality.

This is the story of how it happened.

  1. not really sure about this challenge. I am from that region and can tell you that there's plenty of time he has spent riding directly on or right next to roads with cars going 100kmh while being sleep-deprived and in a 'delirious state'. Following this up with alcohol right after and many people surrounding him just adds to the whole thing, and I just feel like this doesn't really send the right message. Anyhow, maybe as he says it isn't that deep, but it certainly is a dangerous state to be in
