Of course, in my haste to get all suited up and ready, and then put on my fender for just such occasions, I put it on backwards. I noticed before I left, but I had to meet my partner on time so I just went with it.

Sorry I stupidly said that fender is backward before reading your comment. I was so proud of myself, too.
Just say the fender is correct, but the rest of the bike is backward.
actually the fender is fine. it’s the rest of the bike that’s backwards.
Good thing is it’ll only take a minute or two to reinstall it correctly.
Any problem leaving it on when it’s not raining? Seems like a huge hassle to take it on and off all the time
MUDGUARD!! Fenders are what Americans call car bumpers.

Even if that fender had been installed correctly, it wouldnt have stopped much water and grime from covering your feet, legs, and drivetrain.
The flap needs to extend lower- get an extension flap.
