I just moved somewhere with some decent off road and mountain biking trails and decided to pick up mountain biking and got a cheap used Walmart bike that broke within a couple weeks. so I wanted to get something a bit better rn this was in good condition and only 100$ so I got it but I’m still new so I can’t do anything crazy yet so I don’t need anything super high quality but for general trail riding and i wanted to get into doing some ramps up to like 1ft tall or so would this bike be a good option or is it not able to take jumps like that? If not what are some other good options, to look out for in the future under like 400ish.

To get started, sure! But you’ll quickly want something with a better geometry and more modern specs. Save up, and buy yourself a nice mid-range bike
Ozark trail
Will it work? Sure. Is it a good trail bike by today’s standards? No. Its old, cheap and woefully outdated.
Is it worth 100 bucks to get into the hobby? Absolutely.
Save up 700-1000 bucks and you’ll be able to get an awesome trail bike once you decide you’re ready for something better.
Something made in the 2020s with thru axles, hydraulic disc brakes, an air fork, 1x drivetrain, a tapered head tube, and 29″ wheels is what you’ll want to look for.
No. It’s fine for bike paths and gravel roads.
Serious trails need more bike. I’d look for a hardtail with disc brakes, 29 inch wheels, and no front derailleur (shifter) for $300-700.
In 1992
It’s got two wheels and you can ride it. Is it perfect? Nope. Does it work? Sure. Go have fun with it and upgrade when you can. You don’t have to start at the top end.
It was 20 years ago.
In my opinion this bike does not look like its in good condition. The fork looks pretty messed up and dry, those things on the stanchions look like (parts of) popped out sealings :O
If they are, this is not an easy fix for a beginner and since a repair/ replacement is probably out of budget you might as well not have suspension at all.
I’d recommend doing some research on what you really want and maybe saving a bit, so you won”t be wanting a new bike within a couple months.
Does the front fork compress?
Wow, this brings me back. This same year Hardrock got me into mountain biking over 20 years ago.
Realistically no, but if you’re strong enough… 🥂
It’s really going to depend on what you consider mountain biking. If it’s a dirt path, you can make it work. If you’re actually planning on mountian biking in anything besides very easy flat trails, Pass on this one. There will be better ones.
