Hi everyone,

I found this bike on sale and bought it for a restoration project. The seller said that this is a Bianchi from the 60s with a non standard paint job and that they got it from Italy (I'm in southern Germany so that does not sound unrealistic). However after looking through the catalogues and a lot of browsing I cannot identify the model (or if this is really a Bianchi) and came here to ask for help.

Update: the frame does look a bit like Folgore and the right dropout looks like the teeth might have been filed off. But head tube lugs do not match any pictures of Folgore I could find… and there are some screwing points I haven't seen on Folgore pictures either. Plus as far as I know Folgore was equipped with high grade Italian parts and what I have here is a strange mix.

Update #2: in the catalogue from 1940 the Folgore model has a similar paint scheme although not identical.
The catalogue was found here: https://paramanubrio.blogspot.com/p/cataloghi_6.html

Update #3: thanks to everybody who responded. It turned out to be a Bianchi from 1941. "Bianchi 41" was engraved on the headset.

Here is what I have figured out so far:

Crankset: (apparently) Magistroni
Front derailleur: Huret
Rear derailleur: Huret Allvit
Calipers: Universal
Rims: Rigida Superchromix
Front hub: Weco
Rear hub: Atom
Stem: TTT
Handlebar: TTT Tourisme
Saddle: Cinelli
Pedals: Lyotard 136R
Serial number on the seat lug of the frame: 946948 and below there is a 0

I would appreciate any help!

  1. I don’t know anything about it, but my instinct says that this is some French bike in disguise.
I would be glad to be proved wrong!
    Beautiful bike nonetheless!

Bianchi inthe 30s and 40s were a bluer colour then the modern celeste. But the other colour in here besides the greeny bluey colour is something else altogether.

  3. no, seriously, I think more and more this is French. What are the odds, Huret, Rigida, “Tourisme”, Lyotard…
I would check the threading of the bottom bracket, it could give you some clues.

  4. Definitely a Bianchi, perhaps a model older than Folgore, like 1940s or even older. The Modello “M” from the mid-’30s has a lot in common with your frame. It’s likely that none of the parts are original, maybe excepting the headset.

Take good care of the headset, those are very difficult to replace.

  5. Very French looking long wheel base racing/tourer

I have the same stem on a early 70s Roold
