  1. Well, from personal experience, it’ll likely damage your car sooner or later.

  2. Im gonna be real with you: don’t use this kinda rack unless you don’t care about your car getting scratched up and possibly bent in some spots.

If you want something that definitely wont damage your car, unfortunately it’s pricier. You’ll need a hitch and a hitch mounted rack

  3. Can that middle strap fit next to the Civic badge?

Personally I’d space the feet out further. The upper feet should be on the glass. Get that pivot point as close as you can to the car

I hate those racks. I had a Mazda 6 with one and it messed up my trunk alignment and sometimes it was hard to close the trunk. No I didn’t open or close it with the bikes on it.

I have one of these and haven’t had any issues. Looks okay to me. Give it a shake make sure it feels fine.

I used one of these for almost 12 years on my old grand am before I got rid of it. Its rock solid when installed correctly and it never mis aligned my trunk or bent it. It will scuff the paint if the feet on it or your car are dirty over time though. I used the extra webbing to secure the tires so they didnt spin when it was on the rack, and I custom made covers for the frame and forks out of vinyl tubing so multiple bikes dont scratch each other.

  7. Trunk racks are trash. Hitch or roof. Or put your bike in the car. Or ride your bike to where you’re going. Any of these options before using a trunk rack.

I believe that your mounting would be more secure if you mounted the side clips on the vertical portion of the trunk lidr. That is, the left clip shoud be to the left of the *ivic* logo and the right one obviously in a corresponding position on the right. Slip several layers of old bedsheet or toweling between the clip and the paint then tighten the hell out of the straps. Put fabric under the other clips as well.. Don’t know what these other guys are doing; I never had any problems with bent sheet metal.

Get a hitch (~$150) 4 bolts to install. Super easy. Then get a nice hitch rack. A bike is an investment and there’s no sense in risking it with a trunk rack.

  10. Thule Raceway is a similar bike rack that has cables up top and on bottom which secure very well and much easier to take on / off than dealing with straps and it locks with a key. Look into it.

The hooks on the raceway are rubber and protect a bit more, the ratcheting system to tighten the cables works really well too. Highly recommend. Check offer up and Thule and you can find them second hand.

I really loved the raceway trunk rack it was compact, portable and easy to assemble and disassemble plus super solid when mounted. Eventually bought an suv and use a hitch mount now.

Using the roof rack on a car means potentially scratching the roof and roof rails of car and I didn’t want that so trunk it was.
