I’m a beginner and wanting to get a solid entry level road bike with Canyon. Just the other night, I entered my measurements, and it said the 3XS would fit. However, most of the entry level bikes had 3XS marked as “coming soon”. Now, it appears that the size is discontinued 🙁 Hoping that it’s a glitch? Or is my size just so niche that it’s tough selling?

It appears you are looking for bike fitting help. Please make sure you post as screenshot of the Canyon size chart for your bike, with your point in it. See [this example](https://imgur.com/a/ALUfXyy)

  2. Mhm.

Take a look at the new Enduraces. They don’t have a 3XS size anymore, same with the new Grizl.

The somewhat self-inflicted problem is that it is really difficult to make a small frame fit around the 700c wheels, especially when you want high tire clearance. That’s why many earlier models actually used smaller 650b wheels for smaller sizes. Actually, the aluminium Grizl still uses them for the sizes smaller than S.

But the problem is that the industry has decided that 650b wheels don’t have a future, which mainly means that many tire companies have a way smaller selection. The new Schwalbe Gravel tires don’t have any 650b offerings anymore and what is still available is mainly old stock. 650b road tires are even less popular, mainly because thin road bike tires were less of an issue to build a small bike around.

So yeah, you’re out of luck with Canyon unfortunately. Your measurements would probably result in 2XS on the newer bikes but most of them aren’t entry-level.

The main problem with (big) 700c tires on small sizes is toe overlap. Your feet can hit the tire when you’re turning the bike, which can be dangerous. This is pretty much an issue that’s exclusive to road and gravel bikes, since they want to keep the overall length of the bike short.

Mountainbikes don’t have as much of an issue, running a 29″ front wheel and a 27,5″ rear wheel is actually quite popular. And since the fork is angled much more than on a road bike, there also isn’t any toe overlap.

  3. Yeah 650B tires and tubes are too hard to source. Unfortunately the short riders will have to look for other options from now on.
