I used to cycle when I was younger nothing serious but I stopped as I just got really busy, I started running 2 years ago and have the itch to get back into cycling. So I’ve got a race booked in 4 months and I’ve not even got a bike yet.
I see this in a shop, it’s a 2nd hand bike for £299.99 looks like it could use new chain & probably new bar tape. I’m just wondering if you guys think it’s worth the punt as half of me wants to just send it & the other half says just buy a brand new bike.

I dont know that brand and it looks super weird, but has 105 on it so I guess it is a good deal? Someone else who may be familiar with it should answer.
looks okay as a starter

I wouldn’t touch that, personally. Non-standard seat post and saddle mount. Very limited tire clearance. Configured in a way that gives me pause: saddle slammed down, bars raised way up with a shortie stem. And do you know if it’s your size? I’d rather get a less-“nice” new bike than a “nicer” older bike that’s been set up in an oddball way.
Don’t buy a brand new bike unless you are ready to spend much more than this.
Whether to buy this bike… I’ve never heard of the brand but the 105 group set is probably worth the price by itself. If there’s nothing’s wrong with it, that seems like a pretty good price for a newish working bike. As someone else said, the proprietary seat post might give me pause, but really how often do you need to change a seat post if this one is the right length?
What width tyres is it running? Clearance looks tight.
Personally I’d save up a bit more and get a road bike from somewhere like Decathlon or a Boardman.
The bike itself looks good. Older aero frame,, it could possibly take 28c tires, although the current ones are grand sports from conti, so not bad, as long as they are good condition. Chain will need to measured, but tbh it looks barely used judging by the brake surface on wheels.
The seatpost length will need to be checked, because if it’s cut, then most likely you won’t find a replacement.
But the most important is the size. How tall are you? This looks like a XS frame (47/50)
I honestly don’t think you should buy this. Weird no-brand aero frame with silly seat-post is a turn off. It has a good groupset on it but that’s not enough for me to buy it.
If it needs a new chain they haven’t serviced it so I also wouldn’t buy it.
Does your work do cycle2work scheme? You can save a tonne on a new bike through that.
If not, keep looking. Better deals that this out there.
WTF? Blue handlebar tape? Swap it out for black to match saddle
