Hello there everyone! I am brand new to the world of mountain biking. Actually, I’m pretty new to the biking scene in general. The only experience I have is riding as a kid.
I was going to purchase an ozark trail bike from Walmart but stumbled across this bike (Salsa Journeyman XS) on marketplace. I paid $350 for it. Do you guys think this was a good deal? Just curious what experienced riders think. Thanks for your time everyone!
Tl;dr: was paying $350 on this salsa journeyman XS a good deal?

I think you got a helluva deal!
Salsa make some good bikes. This one will be suited to tamer trails, which is probably suitable for most people, but I’ve also seen people riding pretty hard on gravel bikes in a similar vein to this, so really rider is the limiting factor if the bike is solid! If you get super into riding, you may want something which can handle rougher trails, or you may be totally happy with this. Have fun with it!
I have a journeyman salsa as my gravel bike, and it’s okay on chill single track. But you got a good deal.
You bought a super capable flat bar gravel bike. Some folks will argue that it qualifies as a mountain bike. Others will argue that it does not.
Ride it, have fun, and if you find yourself ready to tackle rougher terrain a few months down the road, look for your next bike to have suspension.
You basically got a urban cruiser bike that can hop down some curbs and drops. A bunny hop back up would be challenging. Barely any braking power it looks like. Skinny width handlebars so you can squeeze through trees on your beginner trails, but not a whole lot for control. So glad you or anyone doesn’t spend money at Walmart sporting goods so that price is about a win
