It looks like you’re forcing the valve into the rim hole as far as humanly possible. You really don’t need to do that. Just tighten down the ring snug, and let the air pressure in the tire do the rest.

You need to remove the valve stem to apply new tape. No wearing parts in valve stem, replace cores if they don’t hold air.

you can replace just the core, but my question is, is it leaking? if no, why replace it? maybe you don’t need to replace anything

Just replace the core. You can get the tool and a bunch of cores on Amazon for cheap.
