My partner’s bike has a slightly warped rotor and makes this exact sound when the pad and rotor are in contact and we lean it. You may be able to fiddle with your caliper position and eliminate the rub

  2. I had a very similar experience last year. Went insane chasing it. In my case, it was related to the crank arm and bottom bracket. I think there was too much torque on the crank arm fixing screw that attaches the left crank arm to the spindle. Its the one that goes on using that disc shaped tool and is supposed to be hand tightened prior to tightening the bolts the left crank.

To fix, I removed the left crank completely, moved the spindle out on the right an inch of two to relieve all pressure, and then reinstalled the crank with just light hand torque on that bolt, and tightened the crank bolts to spec.

I’d guess your neighbor is learning a new instrument, your nose isn’t happy with your cleaning regime or your brakes are rubbing.
