  1. > Is my route sensible?

The scale doesn’t allow proper judgement about that.

    > Any must see’s along the way?

No, Italy is not north Korea, you can go see and pass up on things however it suits you. Don’t let other people tell what you should see and go see what interests you.

    > Is camping ok most of the route?

Yes, just be aware that wild camping is officially illegal.

I think the route is great, i rode on a few of these places (Toscana, Lazio, Liguria) and i had a great time !

Camping spots were a bit harder to find in some areas than France and Switzerland, so i asked people if i could sleep on their properties and they were really welcoming, often offering me a coffee or breakfast in the morning.

Also, don’t forget to bring a bathing suit, between Firenze and Roma you’ll find a few natural hot springs, it’s a nice experience !

  3. I did Zürich to Sicily twice. You pretty much can’t go wrong with any route, there are so many options and they are all great.

In general I found the interior in Italy (at least north of Rome) prettier and more fun than the coast, so nothing wrong with your route there.

One possible change you could do is instead of going to via the Gotthard route (which I also really loved), go across the Splügenpass. There are some spectacular sights along the way, like the Tamina gorge and Lake Como. Also the road downhill from Splügen to Chiavenna is one of the most spectacular roads I’ve ever been on.
