I was riding along and started to notice a slight wobble in my front wheel. Within 15 seconds as I was slowing down the wobble got more severe to the point where it almost threw me from the bike.

I pulled over and this is what I saw: bearings loose inside, metal pieces everywhere, carnage.

This is very likely my fault, as I regreased the hub and put it back together. When I was adjusting the cup and cones I got it to the sweet spot and tightened the cone against the lock nut, but maybe not tight enough? The bearings were in a pre-made race.

Do you have any idea on why this happened? And is the hub ruined?

Thank you.

Well you definitely need new bearings/races. I don’t necessarily see any damage so it might be fixable but would definitely take it to a shop.
